{"id":1011,"date":"2012-05-29T09:53:30","date_gmt":"2012-05-29T13:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/our-hope.org\/blog\/?p=1011"},"modified":"2012-05-29T09:53:30","modified_gmt":"2012-05-29T13:53:30","slug":"homegoing-of-jan-coudriet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/our-hope.org\/blog\/2012\/05\/homegoing-of-jan-coudriet\/","title":{"rendered":"Homegoing of Jan Coudriet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/our-hope.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Coudriet-Jan-and-Ella-Stallard.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1012\" title=\"Coudriet Jan and Ella Stallard\" src=\"http:\/\/our-hope.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Coudriet-Jan-and-Ella-Stallard-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Last week, Jan Coudriet, my son David\u2019s father-in-law passed away.\u00a0 He was the Director of Camp Sankanac, a BCM ministry located near Pottstown, Pennsylvania.\u00a0 I heard someone say that 500 people were at his funeral Sunday night.\u00a0 I know that the visitation with the family was scheduled from 4 to 6 pm Sunday and it had to be extended to 6:30 because there were so many people.\u00a0 I believe they had to cut the line off to begin the funeral service.<\/p>\n<p>The service was truly a celebration of a life well-lived for Christ.\u00a0 There are several good things to say about Jan Coudriet. \u00a0I will mention a couple of them here.\u00a0 First, Mr. \u201cC\u201d (as my son calls him) had been the camp director for 29 years.\u00a0 This shows he loved kids and desperately wanted them to hear the gospel and turn to Christ.\u00a0 No one stays that long in a ministry without being committed.\u00a0 He was involved in helping ministries in China and India.\u00a0 His whole life was tirelessly spent connecting youngsters (and others when opportunity arose) to faith in Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Second, when my son married Jan and Beth\u2019s daughter Brielle bringing our two families together, we entered into a wonderful relationship with a new extended family.\u00a0 They welcomed us.\u00a0 We never had any cross words.\u00a0 Jan was the epitome of godliness and deferring to others.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The picture I have attached is a picture of Jan with Ella Stallard, the granddaughter that we share.\u00a0 I say that in the present tense.\u00a0 Jan is still alive.\u00a0 To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.\u00a0 One day Jan\u2019s body will be raised from the dead at the rapture of the Church and reunited with his spirit.\u00a0 I will hug his neck again.\u00a0 I am reminded of the words once given by D. L. Moody in anticipation of his own death:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some day you will read in the papers that D. L. Moody is dead\u2026Don\u2019t you believe a word of it!\u00a0 At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now\u2026That which is born of the flesh may die.\u00a0 That which is born of the Spirit will live forever.&#8221;\u00a0 (<em>The Life of D. L.
