Southside Baptist Church is the first official church planting effort flowing from Mission Scranton Urban Ministries under the sponsorship of Heritage Baptist Church in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. Its first official worship service was held on April 26, 1998.
The church is meeting in the John F. Kennedy Elementary School at the corner of Prospect and Saginaw Avenues on the south side of Scranton about one mile north of the Scranton suburb of Moosic.
